Israel’s Vehicle Imports Jump 135.9% in January
Israel vehicle imports surged 135.9% in January 2026 to 22,045, driven by tax changes. Commercial vehicle imports also rose significantly.
Jerusalem, 9 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israel Tax Authority reported that in January 2026, Israel recorded imports of 22,045 vehicles (private), compared to 9,347 in January 2025, an increase of 135.9%. The increase in January 2026 is due to low imports in January 2025 after the advance of vehicle imports in an exceptional volume in December 2024, on the eve of an increase in the purchase tax on electric vehicles, an update to the green taxation formula, and an update to the green taxation outline in January 2025, explained the Tax Authority. Imports of electric vehicles were also advanced in December 2025 on the eve of an increase in the purchase tax on electric vehicles, but to a moderate extent.
Commercial vehicle imports totaled 1,351 vehicles in January 2026, compared to 849 in January 2025, an increase of 59.1%.
Trend data indicates a moderate increase in passenger vehicle imports starting in March 2025.
