Dollar Hits 30-Year Low Against Israeli Shekel

The U.S. dollar hit a 30-year low against the Israeli shekel in Jerusalem on Wednesday, falling below three shekels for the first time since October 1995.

Jerusalem, 15 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The U.S. dollar fell below three shekels on Wednesday, marking a historic milestone in the exchange rate between the two currencies and underscoring the strength of Israel’s currency.

The last time the dollar traded below this level was in October 1995, when it briefly dipped to 2.991 shekels. Since then, the three-shekel threshold has been viewed as a key psychological barrier in foreign exchange markets. Its breach now reflects a prolonged trend of dollar weakness against the shekel.

Over the past 12 months, the dollar has lost around 18% of its value relative to Israel’s currency. Earlier lows had approached the three-shekel mark, including a recent rate of 3.019, but the latest drop represents a clear break below that long-standing floor.
