Jerusalem, 1 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Knesset’s Special Committee on Foreign Workers raised alarm Tuesday over failures in addressing violence and neglect of elderly patients, particularly by foreign caregivers. In 2024, 455 complaints were filed with the Population Authority, while the Ministry of Social Affairs received 5,329 reports of elder abuse — mostly by family members.
Committee Chair MK Hava Eti Atiya (Likud) criticized the lack of coordination between authorities, allowing suspected abusers to continue working with new families unaware of their past. Officials cited privacy restrictions and labor shortages as challenges. The committee called for a unified protocol to improve oversight and information sharing.
