Jerusalem, 6 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Unit for Coordinating the Fight Against Human Trafficking and Prostitution at Israel’s Just Ministry brought to the attention of the public considering using child surrogacy procedures in Ukraine, important information and a warning regarding the concerns arising from the procedures performed in that country.

The Unit monitors the patterns of conduct in surrogacy procedures outside of Israel, and conducts an assessment whenever indications arise that raise concerns about defects in the informed consent and free will of the surrogate mothers, and even their exploitation. In extreme cases, when these are serious and cumulative indications, it is even possible to indicate a concern about the existence of various criminal offenses, including human trafficking.

Among other things, the following indications were observed in Ukraine: cases of severe violence against the surrogate women, exploitation of particularly vulnerable women, bringing foreign women to Ukraine solely for the purpose of carrying out these procedures, stipulations Draconian surrogacy agreements that violate the rights of the surrogate and ignore the ongoing war in the region, as well as non-payment for the procedure.

In light of the above, the recommendation of the Coordination Unit for Combating Human Trafficking is to refrain from performing surrogacy procedures in Ukraine at this stage , in order to prevent harm and damage to the surrogate mothers, the intended parents and the newborn babies, and to prevent difficulties and problems in legal proceedings down the road.

Jerusalem, 6 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) reported that, in recent days, an intelligence indication emerged regarding a rally in support for terrorism that took place today (Monday) in the area of Birzeit University, located by Ramallah.

With the start of the gathering, IDF forces and Border Police entered the university area, used means for dispersing demonstrations, carried out warning shots into the air only, and dispersed the gathering.

Later, another violent disorder developed involving hundreds of suspects, which included throwing stones and rocks from rooftops in the area toward the forces in a manner that posed an immediate threat to them.

The forces responded with means for dispersing demonstrations and firing toward key violent activists.

Jerusalem, 6 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reported that the country had a total of 1.34 million visitor in 2025, up from 974,400 in 2024, but still down from 3.24 million in 2023, most of which, including the fall Jewish holidays, came before that year’s October 7 massacre. Of these 1.32 million were tourists, up from 961,300 in 2024 and down from 3.01 million in 2023.

The reason for the increase of almost 60% in total visitors in 2025 over 2026 was the end of the Gaza war in the fall and an overall return of foreign airlines flying to Israel even before that.

Jerusalem, 6 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli tech company Innoviz Technologies has launched InnovizSMARTer, a compact sensor system that can “see” in 3D and process data on site, cutting the need for costly network connections. The system is designed for cities, transport networks, security operators, industrial sites, and large campuses, making it easier to monitor traffic, manage public spaces, secure facilities, or oversee automated operations.

InnovizSMARTer works wirelessly over Wi-Fi, LTE, and 5G, and will be demonstrated live at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.

Jerusalem, 6 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli electronic monitoring firm SuperCom has won a national contract in a Western European country. The Tel Aviv-based company said the deal marks the tenth country worldwide to adopt its domestic violence monitoring solutions.

Secured through a partnership with a leading local service provider, the contract will serve multiple government agencies and cover domestic violence monitoring, GPS offender tracking, and home detention programs. SuperCom is expected to replace the incumbent national provider and support new initiatives. The multi-year framework agreement is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2026.

During the event, the fishing boat and the net they were using to fish were seized and confiscated. The net contained dozens of fish of various species, including fish smaller than the legally permitted size. It was also found that the suspects were not only fishing within a nature reserve – they were doing so without a fishing license. The fishermen were detained at the port of Hadera, where they were handed over for further treatment by the Nature and Parks Authority as part of an investigation that was opened.

Guy Levian, Deputy Director of the Marine Unit at the Nature and Parks Authority: “The successful cooperation between the authorities led us to the swift apprehension of the offenders. I thank the Tel Aviv Marine Police for their assistance in the enforcement operation, which was carried out quickly and professionally. Fishing laws exist to keep our sea healthy, which also helps nature but ultimately also helps fishing. Nature reserves serve as a safe haven for fish to reproduce, which leads to an increase in fish populations along all coasts. If we prevent fish from reproducing in nature reserves – their numbers will also decrease in areas permitted for fishing, so protecting them is also in the interest of fishing. We see that gradually fishermen are beginning to understand and internalize the laws, but there are still those who try to find loopholes. We will continue to enforce and protect marine nature with vigilance.”

The minimum size limit for fishing is one of the principles established for responsible management of the fish resource, with the aim of allowing fish to complete their life cycle and reproduce, thereby maintaining stable and healthy populations over time. Israel’s fishing policy is based on a comprehensive view of the marine and marine-terrestrial ecosystem, and combines breeding seasons, permitted and prohibited fishing methods, supervision and enforcement, alongside continuous monitoring and scientific knowledge accumulation. All these tools are part of a single framework designed to ensure the continued existence of the fish resource for the benefit of the public, fishermen, and future generations.”

The Nature and Parks Authority reminds that fishing within the Gador Nature Reserve is prohibited. Fishing should only be done according to the law and in permitted areas. Since 2018, the Nature and Parks Authority has been acting as the body responsible for enforcing the Fishing Ordinance and the fishing regulations determined by the Fishing Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
