Jerusalem, 20 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s State Attorney’s Office implemented what it called a “significant systemic move” this year for the benefit of victims of sexual offenses, including the establishment of special departments for sexual offenses in each of the Attorney’s Office’s districts and the training of dedicated attorneys to handle these offenses. The move was led by State Attorney Amit Isman.
Sexual offenses, which constitute 17% of all cases opened by the Prosecutor’s Office in Israel, are considered one of the most complex and sensitive areas in the law enforcement system. They require high evidentiary expertise, close support for victims, and the ability to provide professional treatment in a field with unique characteristics. Despite their complexity, the Prosecutor’s Office’s data for 2024, which is now being published, shows that the rate of closure of cases in sexual offenses is similar to the rate of closure of other offenses, a figure that reflects deepening treatment and ongoing professional improvement.
As part of the process, dedicated attorneys were assigned who had undergone in-depth training in the field of sexual offenses, uniform procedures were formulated that ensure tailored treatment for victims, and cooperation with treatment agencies, aid organizations, welfare services, and child investigators was expanded for the benefit of optimal monitoring of the cases.
Prosecutor’s Office data shows that in 2024, 667 indictments were filed for sexual offenses, 10% were filed against defendants who were minors. In approximately 78% of the proceedings that concluded this year, the defendants were fully or partially convicted.
