Highway 60 connecting Jerusalem and Gush Etzion opens expanded section, enhancing traffic flow and safety. The upgrade to a dual-lane highway is ahead of.
Jerusalem, 3 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — In what Israel’s Ministry of Transportation is calling “great news for residents of Gush Etzion and the surrounding area,” the first and central section of Highway 60, between Gush Etzion and Jerusalem, has opened to traffic.
At this stage, the section between Husan and the “convoy junction” has been completed and opened to traffic, opening with two lanes in each direction. The opening of this section has already led to a significant improvement in traffic flow, reducing congestion and increasing the level of safety on the route. The remaining sections of the project are expected to open gradually over the next two weeks.
The project, carried out by the Ministry of Transportation, through the Moriah Company, is progressing at a rapid pace and is even ahead of schedule, with additional sections expected to open in the next two weeks, which will further improve traffic flow and travel safety.
Highway 60, which serves as a central and sensitive transportation artery entering and exiting Jerusalem, is undergoing a comprehensive upgrade as part of the project, transforming from a single-lane road in each direction to a dual-lane road with two lanes in each direction. The upgrade is designed to address the increase in traffic volumes, improve safety, and significantly reduce travel times in the area.
