Jerusalem, 9 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Miri Regev, today (Tuesday) laid the cornerstone for the start of work on the construction of the “Brown Line Metro” – a mass transit system using the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) method connecting the central Israel cities Be’er Ya’akov, Rishon LeZion, Lod and Ramla. The work includes developing sidewalks, paving a new route, asphalt, lighting, landscaping and irrigation.
The work to build the Brown Line Metro is part of a high-passenger public transportation system, operated using advanced, high-capacity vehicles that simulate a light rail. It has a total length of approximately 28 kilometers.
The system is designed to Upgrade the public transportation system in the cities of the center and the lowlands and offer an advanced, efficient and reliable alternative to the private car.
The work will continue until 2028 and will include paving priority routes for public transportation, bicycle paths, accessible and smart stations, renewing and upgrading infrastructure, burying the electricity grid, landscape development, and planting trees
