Jerusalem, 9 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — In light of the increase in gasoline prices, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is emphasizing the benefits of switching to electric vehicles, and encouraging the public to consider the transition. This is a step that could lead to significant savings in household energy expenses, along with reducing dependence on polluting and unstable fuels.

Already today, over 230,000 drivers in Israel are not affected by the increase in fuel prices, thanks to the use of electric vehicles. According to the Ministry, an average family can save about 8,000 Shekels ($2,160) a year on fuel costs alone, and in remote areas even up to 20,000 Shekels ($6,500) a year. In addition, electric vehicles offer savings of thousands of additional shekels a year on maintenance and care expenses.

By 2026, average electric vehicle prices (family or SUV) will be on par or even lower than comparable gasoline vehicles, and significantly cheaper than hybrid vehicles. The used electric vehicle market has also expanded, and now offers a wide range of models at affordable prices, sometimes even lower than their gasoline counterparts.

At the same time, Israel’s charging infrastructure continues to expand rapidly, with over 10,000 charging sockets spread across the country. The chargers also provide a broad solution for drivers who travel long distances. In addition, the cost of installing a home charging station has dropped significantly in recent years, and today solutions can be found for only hundreds of shekels.
