The Ministry of Environmental Protection has Opened a National Situation Room and has Increased its Emergency Preparedness

Given the recent developments in the regional arena and the preparedness of security forces for possible scenarios, the Ministry of Environmental Protection has opened a national situation room and has increased our level of emergency preparedness, with an emphasis on preparing for environmental incidents that are liable to endanger human life, infrastructure, and the environment.

Idit Silman, Minister of Environmental Protection: The Ministry of Environmental Protection acts in full coordination with all emergency bodies to ensure professional preparedness and a rapid response to any environmental scenario. Protecting human life and public health stands at the top of our priorities.

The situation room operates from the Ministry’s headquarters in Jerusalem, is managed by the National Hazardous Materials and Emergency Array, and is staffed by the relevant professional entities. It maintains continuous contact with all national emergency bodies, including the Home Front Command, the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), government ministries, and local authorities. As part of the preparedness, the Ministry’s professional entities act to ensure the readiness of factories and sensitive sites, the availability of emergency responders, and the ability to respond rapidly to hazardous materials incidents and exceptional environmental events.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection, the national guiding body for the management of hazardous materials, is prepared to accompany emergency forces and act in full coordination with all authorities. During an emergency, the Home Front Command is the body responsible for the protection of sites and factories containing hazardous materials, and the Ministry, as the national guiding entity in the field, accompanies the professional preparedness and the protection work in collaboration with the Ministry’s emergency responders, environmental associations, and environmental units, with the aim of ensuring maximum protection for public health and the environment.

The center has been reinforced, and the Ministry’s emergency responders operate within an extensive array.
