Massive Upgrades Planned for Ashdod Train Station
Israel Railways invests $9M in Ashdod train station upgrades, expanding passenger halls, adding security, and improving amenities to accommodate 1 million.
Jerusalem, 1 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Transportation and Israel Railways have begun work to upgrade the Ashdod-Ad-Halom train station at a cost of approximately 28 million Shekels ($9 million). The upgrade will include a significant expansion of the passenger hall to approximately 215 square meters, along with the addition of turnstiles, screening stations, and an expansion of the ticket office space, which will improve the flow of passengers entering and exiting the station. In addition, for the well-being of passengers, and in order to create a pleasant waiting area, the station cafeteria area will be expanded, which will also include an outdoor and indoor area, where new benches and seating will be placed.
The Ministry said it expects the station to see growth of about one million passengers per year.
An additional protected space (in case of missile attacks during war) measuring approximately 40 square meters will be established at the station in the southern part of the station with direct and quick access from the passenger platforms, and a comprehensive upgrade of the existing station infrastructure will be carried out, including fire safety systems, electricity, and the addition of restrooms.
