Jerusalem, 29 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that Lebanon is under indirect Iranian control. The declaration came on Sunday when Sa’ar held an online briefing for honorary consuls in Israel from around the world.

At the briefing, which was attended by about 60 honorary consuls, Sa’ar detailed Israel’s position regarding the war.

Regarding the Lebanese government, he said: “Lebanon is still under indirect Iranian occupation. Ministers from Hezbollah serve in the Lebanese government.”

The Foreign Minister also asserted that a “large volume” of the rocket launches made by Hezbollah Terrorists toward Israel are being carried out from south of the Litani River, which in some areas is just 10 kilometers north of Israel’s border with Lebanon.

This is an area, he pointed out, that the Lebanese government announced in early January that it had gained “operational control,” Sa’ar explained. However, roughly 5,000 rockets have been fired at Israel from Lebanese soil since the beginning of the war.

“We are committed to acting for the security of our citizens,” he declared.
