Jerusalem, 19 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Following the deaths of an elderly couple in Ramat Gan due to an Iranian attack, the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security called on senior citizens to seek help from sheltered accommodation spaces across the country.

To that end, the Ministry is updating the public on the deployment of protected accommodation and sleeping spaces intended for senior citizens and people with disabilities who have difficulty reaching a shelter in real time or whose home is not protected.

The move is intended to provide an immediate solution for those left without a family home base or without access to standard protection. All complexes are approved by the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Home Front Command in the respective local authorities.

As part of the initiative, the ministry supports local authorities in converting public buildings, schools and daycare centers into safe accommodation complexes. The centers provide not only physical protection according to Home Front Command standards, but also a social and emotional response that reduces anxiety levels and strengthens community resilience. Additional local authorities join the initiative every day, and hundreds of senior citizens across the country come to the spaces at night.
