Jerusalem, 16 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel said it destroyed a facility in Tehran used by Iran to develop capabilities for attacking satellites, in a strike the Israel Defense Forces said targeted Tehran’s growing space warfare program.
The compound was used to develop offensive capabilities against satellites, “posing a threat to Israel’s satellites and to space assets of other countries around the world,” the IDF said.
The facility was involved in projects including the development of the Chamran-1 satellite, which was built by Iran’s Defense Ministry electronics industries and launched into space in September 2024 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The strike follows a recent Israeli attack on a research facility connected to the Iranian Space Organization in Tehran. The March 8 strike targeted what Israel said was a separate compound linked to Iran’s space-related military research.
According to the IDF, Iran has invested significant resources in recent years to expand its military capabilities in space, including systems that could be used in potential space-based attacks.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Israeli Air Force said it destroyed an aircraft used by Iran’s Supreme Leader at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran.
The IDF said the aircraft was used by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, senior Iranian officials, and military personnel for travel related to military procurement and coordination with other countries.
