Jerusalem, 10 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Two Hezbollah missiles struck central Israel on Monday after a failure in both interception and warning systems prevented them from being shot down or triggering air raid sirens, the Israel Defense Forces said after completing an investigation it described as revealing an “isolated failure.”
“Earlier today we completed a joint investigation with the Air Force, drew the relevant lessons and made the necessary adjustments,” said Home Front Command chief Maj. Gen. Shai Kepler.
Hezbollah launched several missiles from Lebanon during the attack, saying it targeted the IDF Home Front Command headquarters in Ramle, known as Rehavam Base, and a satellite communications site in the Ela Valley near Beit Shemesh.
One missile struck Ramle, damaging a daycare center and lightly injuring 14 people. Another landed in an open area in central Israel, damaging infrastructure and injuring two others. Other missiles fired in the barrage were intercepted by Israeli air defenses, the military said.
The IDF said the two missiles that hit the ground were neither intercepted nor preceded by warning sirens in the affected areas. The military called the incident an “isolated failure,” adding that “this is not a new threat” and that the Israeli Air Force “has intercepted similar threats in the past.”
The Home Front Command confirmed that the barrage consisted of a small number of rockets and that a “point failure occurred, resulting in impacts without an alarm being activated.”
The IDF added that “adjustments were made to strengthen interception capabilities against similar threats.”
The IDF began attacking Hezbollah in Lebanon after the Iran-backed terror group fired three rockets in the direction of Haifa on March 2. It was Hezbollah’s first rocket attack since a November 2024 ceasefire took effect. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the March 2 rocket fire, calling it “revenge for the blood of the Supreme Leader of the Muslims, Ali Khamenei.” Khamenei was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on Feb. 28, the first day of the war.
Thirteen Israeli civilians have been killed in Iranian missile barrages.
