Israel Police Crime

In recent weeks, the Shin Bet, the Northern District’s Central Unit, and the Military Police’s Special Investigations Unit have been conducting an investigation into the smuggling of goods into the Gaza Strip within humanitarian aid trucks in exchange for hundreds of thousands of shekels. During the investigation, a suspicion arose that a resident of Rahat, Nasar Abu Mustafa, exploited his connections with a reservist officer to examine the possibility of carrying out smuggling into the Gaza Strip. Subsequently, after the two formulated a plan for how to carry out the smuggling, the reservist officer contacted the active-duty officer to jointly bring in goods, including contraband, such as hundreds of thousands of cigarettes and several mobile phones, to individuals within the Gaza Strip, in exchange for a profit of hundreds of thousands of shekels for these actions. During the investigation, the investigative team gathered evidence against an active-duty officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and a reservist officer with the rank of Major, who exploited their military roles and access to information about aid trucks. The trucks in question were stopped due to a malfunction on their way to the Gaza Strip, and the civilian concealed the contraband inside them when he arrived to repair them. Indictments are expected to be filed soon.
