Jerusalem, 26 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel was hit by a series of missile, rocket, and drone attacks on Thursday, leaving at least ten people wounded and causing widespread damage. The strikes, launched from Iran and Lebanon, targeted cities across the country as residents scrambled to shelters.
Iranian missiles triggered sirens in central Israel, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and near Ben-Gurion Airport. The Israeli Military said three of the projectiles were cluster munitions, with impacts reported in Tel Aviv, Ganei Tikva, Kafr Qasem, Haifa, and Sha’ar Shomron. In Kafr Qasem, a cluster munition pierced the ceiling of a home, injuring a family whose members were in separate rooms. Vehicles and nearby properties were also damaged.
In Tel Aviv, emergency services responded to 15 locations where missiles or intercepted debris caused damage. “A munition struck an apartment, causing a floor to collapse. A woman outside the building was moderately wounded,” a police commander said. Another strike damaged a synagogue and surrounding property.
Hezbollah joined the attacks, firing dozens of rockets and mortar shells from Southern Lebanon and deploying several drones. Two people were lightly injured in northern border communities, while shrapnel damaged buildings in Haifa and a shopping mall in the Krayot area. In central Israel’s Ganei Tikva, fragments from explosions ignited several vehicles.
Among the most serious injuries, an 11-year-old girl suffered cardiac arrest in Safed during a siren alert. Medics successfully resuscitated her and transported her to Ziv Hospital in Nahariya.
Israeli authorities described the day’s events as “a coordinated assault by Iranian and Hezbollah forces” and urged residents to follow safety instructions and remain vigilant.
More than 5,200 Israelis have been injured in Iranian and Hezbollah barrages, of whom 149 are currently hospitalized, according to the Israeli Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, Israel confirmed that the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ naval forces overseeing the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz was killed in an Israeli airstrike, along with senior naval officials.
Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, “the man who was directly responsible for the terrorist act of bombing and blocking the Strait of Hormuz for shipping — was blown up and foiled,” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said.
The Israel Defense Forces said Tangsiri had been involved in the transfer of air defense systems and UAVs to Russia and Syria. He and several other IRGC commanders were sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury in June 2019 after the IRGC shot down a U.S. surveillance drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Oman and Iran, is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, with roughly one-fifth of the world’s petroleum passing through it daily. The Iranian blockade has stranded an estimated 1,900 ships crewed by 40,000 sailors.
Alongside Tangsiri, the IDF confirmed the death of Behnam Rezaei, head of the IRGC Navy Intelligence Directorate, who it said “constituted a central knowledge authority in maritime intelligence.”
