Jerusalem, 5 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Within 48 hours, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security inspectors seized thousands of eggs and dozens of kilograms of smuggled cheese and meat from the Palestinian Authority.

The Ministry’s inspectors thwarted the smuggling of approximately 7,500 unsupervised eggs that were smuggled from the territories into Israel. In one case, at a Crossing, inspectors found approximately 3,000 eggs in a private vehicle, which were hidden in the back seat and trunk of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a resident of Bnei Brak, claimed that he intended to transport the eggs for personal use.

In another case, inspectors seized a vehicle transporting approximately 4,500 eggs, which were intended for sale to stores in the ultra-orthodox community.

According to the law, eggs are a sensitive product that must be transported, are frozen and marketed to the consumer only after they have been sorted at approved sorting stations. Smuggled eggs are usually not kept at the appropriate temperature and, as in these cases, were transported without refrigeration, so they pose a real danger to public health. Therefore, all the eggs were destroyed.

On the same day, the ministry’s inspectors uncovered the smuggling of over 160 kg of cheese produced in Ramallah. Criminal proceedings were opened against the suspect, a 27-year-old resident of Beit Hanina in Jerusalem.
