Jerusalem, 24 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Knesset approved a major overhaul of the country’s animal transport regulations, aiming to set a new standard for animal welfare. The amendment, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, introduces stricter rules on vehicle conditions, travel duration, ventilation, and space—particularly for vulnerable animals such as pregnant livestock, calves, and lambs.
A cutting-edge digital reporting system will track animals in real time, improving transparency and accountability. Supervisors must undergo regular training, and offenders face penalties of up to six months in prison. The Ministry said the reforms bring Israel in line with European Union standards and represent a significant step toward reducing stress and suffering for animals during transport.
