Israel Accepts First Somaliland Ambassador, Plans Reciprocal Appointment
Israel has accepted Dr. Mohamed Hagai as Somaliland's first ambassador and will soon appoint its own envoy, solidifying diplomatic ties after recognition in.
Jerusalem, 25 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Foreign Ministry granted an official letter of acceptance to the first Somaliland ambassador, Dr. Mohamed Hagai, the ministry announced.
According to the ministry, an Israeli ambassador will soon be appointed.
The ministry added that Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV), will host a course for Somaliland’s Water Authority to support development and planning in the African country’s water sector.
Israel became the first and only country to recognize Somaliland in December 2025.
