Jerusalem, 22 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Transport and Road Safety and the Jerusalem Municipality, through the Moriah Company, completed another phase in the public transportation route project on Begin Boulevard in Jerusalem. Last Friday (June 19), a significant phase of work was completed in the section between the Lifta Interchange and Golda Meir Boulevard (to the north of the main entrance to the city), and a new traffic arrangement was put into effect.

Begin Boulevard runs through the center of Jerusalem from the north end of town to its southernmost, connecting to the Tunnels Road that leads down to Hebron.

Work was carried out on the eastern side of the section, including excavation, covering and surfacing, infrastructure installation and route preparation. Upon completion of the work, traffic was transferred to the new arrangement, which allows for the continuation of work on the western side of the section over the coming months, until September.

The new traffic arrangement allows the project to continue to be implemented at a high pace, while maintaining the continuity of traffic on the central axis of Sderot Begin and reducing disruption to the flow of traffic and to the public of drivers and residents.

According to the schedule, the work on the section in question is expected to be completed within about two months, and it will be opened to full traffic on four lanes. Additional work will be carried out later, including lifting bridges and establishing bicycle paths, as part of the vision to create an advanced, safer and more accessible transportation system in the city.
