Representation of Women in Israeli Politics Increasing

International Women's Day 2026 reveals progress in women's political representation and healthier lifestyles in Israel, with 45.4% of drivers being women.

Jerusalem, 8 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — For International Women’s Day 2026, observed today, Sunday, March 8, Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reported that, in 2024, in 4.3% of Local Authorities, the number of women in the six statutory positions was higher than the number of men; in 12.4% of authorities, there was equality in staffing the positions; in 83.3% of authorities, the number of men was higher than the number of women, and of these, in 34.4% of local authorities, only men staffed the six statutory positions.

In 2025, according to the findings of an equality survey, the Majority of the population aged 20 and over (89% of women and 84% of men) disagree with the statement that men are better political leaders than women.

Transportation and road safety:

In 2025, 2.4 million women had a driver’s license, and their share of all those licensed to drive was 45.4%.

Lifestyle, sports and leisure:

In general, women maintain a healthier lifestyle than men, they smoke less, their BMI is more normal, and they eat more vegetables and fruits. Men do physical activity in accordance with recommendations slightly more than women.

50% of women rate their health as very good, and 31% rate their health as good.

23.4% of active athletes in Israel are women. The three individual sports in which the percentages of women were highest were: gymnastics (92.4%), ice skating (87.9%), and roller skating (80.8%).

No significant difference was found between male and female employees in terms of satisfaction with the balance between home and work
