Israel’s Reserve Force Shows Youth, Employment, and Family Trends
Israel's National Insurance Institute data shows most reservists are young men, employed, and many are married with children under 18.
Jerusalem, 19 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s National Insurance Institute has released new data profiling the country’s military reservists, offering a snapshot of their employment, family, and demographic status.
Most reservists are active in the labor market: 65% are employed, 8% self-employed, and 5% combine both, while 22% are not currently working. More than half (55%) earn above the national average wage.
The data shows that 37% of reservists have children under 18, with 33% caring for children under 12. Men comprise 80% of the reserve force, women 20%, and the largest age group is 22–34, representing 62% of reservists.
The numbers also shows that 53% of the reservists are single and 43% are married.
