Measles outbreak at Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital exposes newborns to virus. Security guard worked near neonatal ward on Feb 14 & 15, checking babies' hands.
Jerusalem, 18 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Health Ministry reported that a security guard at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital has contracted measles. The guard was stationed at the entrance to a neonatal ward on February 14 for about 30 minutes, and again the following day from mid-afternoon until feeling unwell. During this time, he checked the hands of babies and mothers leaving the ward.
Hospital staff have contacted families of the newborns to provide preventive treatment. The Ministry urges anyone exposed to follow testing and vaccination guidelines and to avoid public places unless necessary, coordinating visits to medical facilities.
