Israel Refutes Claims of Polluted Water in Gaza – 70,000 Cubic Meters of Water Sent to Gaza Every Day
Israel's COGAT agency denies UNRWA claims about polluted Gaza water, confirming daily provision of 70,000 cubic meters of drinking water.
Jerusalem, 29 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli agency COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories: Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip) refuted claims made by UNRWA (UN Relief Works) that Gaza is running out of drinking water because of Israel.
“While UNRWA focuses on false narratives to try and stay relevant,” said COGAT, “we focus on the facts of Gaza’s water supply.”
COGAT pointed out that:
Over 70,000 m³ of drinking water are facilitated to Gaza daily.
There are four active pipelines – Nahal Oz, Bani Suheila, Birkat Sa’id, & the Emirati line.
Desalination plants and wells are operational through its coordination.
“The facts speak for themselves,” said COGAT, “when a water line issue was reported last week, we coordinated a rapid repair to restore full functionality immediately. While local groundwater faces challenges, we continue to repair infrastructure, even during combat, to ensure civilians access to safe, potable water.”
UNRWA had previously claimed that freshwater supplies in Gaza are “severely limited and polluted,” according to UN Environmental Program and that “the collapse of sewage treatment infrastructure has likely increased groundwater contamination, with major implications for environmental and human health.”
