Jerusalem, 14 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Following the serious safety incidents that occurred in recent years at the in vitro fertilization (IVF) units at Assuta Rishon Lezion and Assuta Ramat HaChayal, and following the findings of the inspection committees and the procedures that were conducted on the subject in recent years, the Director General of the Ministry of Health appointed an additional and complementary inspection committee to examine the conduct of the units, the management, control and supervision mechanisms in the field. The Director General’s decision was made after receiving new information indicating indications of additional safety incidents over the years.

The committee will be headed by Dr. Hagar Mizrahi, head of the Medical Division at the Ministry of Health, and will include senior members from the Health System, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Regulation. The committee will examine the conduct of the IVF units at Assuta, the factors that led to the occurrence of the events, at the structural, managerial and personal levels of the parties involved, as well as the processes of response and handling of the events, particularly among the hospital management.

The committee was asked to submit its conclusions by September 15, 2026.
