Jerusalem, 7 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is providing a budget of 15 million Shekels ($5.1 million) for the construction of solar roofs on sports fields in local authorities.

The budget, coming from the Fund for Israeli Citizens, will enable the construction of approximately 25,000 square meters of solar roofs in local authorities, which will be used to produce clean electricity and provide shade that allows for sports activities throughout the year.

Solar roofing on sports fields allows for a dramatic expansion of the hours of sports activity by creating shading that protects from solar radiation and rain. The roofing also enables local solar electricity production near the consumption areas, reducing the heat island phenomenon in urban areas and strengthening the economic independence of local authorities.
