Jerusalem, 20 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure published today for public comment the National Strategic Plan for Renewable Energies in Israel for 2035 – an implementation roadmap for expanding the scope of renewable energy power in the electricity sector, which it said will enable meeting the goals of the coming years.
In accordance with the scenarios currently being examined, the plan was prepared for a scope of approximately 26 gigawatts of renewable energy installed by 2035. This target requires an addition of approximately 14 gigawatts beyond the currently installed capacity (approximately 8 gigawatts) and the capacity under construction (approximately 4 gigawatts).
The potential mapping carried out as part of the work indicates that Israel has a significant potential of approximately 76 gigawatts of renewable energy in Israel, of which approximately 25 gigawatts have medium-high applicability and above by 2035. Almost double the addition required to meet the target.
The plan is also based on the understanding that renewable energy, and in particular solar energy, has become a competitive production channel in the electricity sector. Therefore, most of the capacity added by 2035 is expected to be built in a competitive model, without the need for subsidies.
The government’s role, as presented in the plan, is to enable the market to realize the existing potential by removing barriers, creating certainty and shortening processes, and in places where the potential is not realized, to activate targeted tools such as installation obligations, tariffs, grants and dedicated incentives.
