Jerusalem, 7 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Israel Mapping Center (MAPI) are launching an advanced dashboard at an international level, which allows the public to receive full information on the potential for the establishment of solar systems on rooftops and in the built-up area and to monitor the realization of the potential.
To date, this information has been based solely on estimates, and now the truth-tellers are being revealed based on the analysis of aerial photographs with the help of artificial intelligence tools. The dashboard will serve as a working tool for decision-makers in local authorities and the government to determine data-based policy.
The dashboard reveals that in the built-up areas of Israel, there is a potential for solar production on rooftops of approximately 17 gigawatts, with 54% of the potential in residential buildings, 14% in buildings with a public designation, in industrial buildings and commercial buildings there is a potential of approximately 11% (in each of the categories), and the remainder is divided as follows: 6% in farm and agricultural buildings and 4% in buildings used for For other uses.
In addition, one can see the enormous potential of approximately 3.5 gigawatts for covering public areas in the built environment such as parking lots, sports fields, public transportation parking lots, and cemeteries.
