Total Cost to Israel of Iran War Estimated at 35 Billion Shekels

Israel's Ministry of Finance estimates the direct budgetary cost of the war with Iran at 35 billion shekels, including defense and compensation.

Jerusalem, 12 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Finance reported that, according to the initial estimate, the government’s direct budgetary expenditures following the war with Iran amount to approximately 35 billion Shekels ($11.55 billion).

The Ministry emphasized that the amount may increase in the event of renewed fighting.

The direct budgetary expenditures of the defense system include the effects on the budgets of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of National Security and other security organizations and amount to a total of approximately 22 billion Shekels ($7.25 billion). This is an amount that has already been added to the budget of the Ministry of Defense as part of the state budget for 2026 and is included in it.

Compensation for damages caused by missile and rocket strikes as well as compensation for employees put on unpaid leave and businesses came to 12 billion Shekels ($3.95 billion).
