Prime Minister Netanyahu inaugurates a new supplementary airport in the Negev, fueling Israel's rapid growth and creating a vital aviation momentum for the.

Following the government’s decision, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived this evening at Tzkelag in the Negev, accompanied by Transportation Minister Miri Regev and Deputy Minister Almog Cohen, to closely examine the site of the supplementary airport for Ben Gurion Airport.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

“The State of Israel is a magnet. It has a world-class economy, and it will continue to grow and grow in the era of high-tech and the era of AI. We are growing rapidly. And when you grow fast, you get millions who want to arrive, and they need to land and take off. Therefore, there is a vital need for an additional airport.
Secondly, there is a vital need to continue developing the Negev, as we have begun to do and continue to do, and now we are continuing with tremendous momentum – momentum of aviation.”

This is a tremendous engine of growth for employment and for bringing in a young population. It is a huge tool for development. I am not hoping, I know it will drive the private sector. First of all, it is possible that the private sector will be the operator. And secondly, in the private sector, there are many businesses that come as a result of such a large business anchor, a huge economic anchor.
Therefore, we are combining two things here: an additional airport for the State of Israel – a vital need; a huge employment and development anchor for the Negev – a vital need. Both things are coming here to this airport.

We looked at the map and said: ‘Wait, why there? It’s far. And here there’s a problem with the Air Force. What’s the problem with this place?’ Well, there was one problem: it’s called Gaza. But that’s no longer a problem. Now, in light of the tremendous success of the State of Israel, the Israel Defense Forces, and the Israeli government, this problem has also been solved, with God’s help. And therefore, we are moving forward to historic days.”
