Premiere League Professional Athlete Arrested for Sports Gambling Fraud

A premiere league football player was arrested in Jerusalem on suspicion of illegal gambling, match-fixing, and money laundering.

Jerusalem, 14 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Sunday morning, a person described only as a “premiere league football player” was arrested on suspicion of what the police called “large-scale” illegal gambling and match fixing. He is also suspected of money laundering and tax offenses which he allegedly carried out with others.

The arrest joins the arrests carried out last week, As part of an investigation being conducted by the Israel Police’s Lahav (Blade) 433 investigation unit (Israel’s version of the FBI) Fraud and Betting in Sports Division, in full cooperation with The Israel Football Association.

According to the suspicion, the player gambled in a “systematic, illegal manner, which is unbecoming of an active player on a senior team.”

Additional investigations of other involved parties and suspects are expected.
