Jerusalem, 2 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israel Police reported that it has solved a case of the theft of IDF (Israel Defense Forces) weapons and Ammunition and arrested two IDF regular service soldiers (active obligatory service – not career or reserve service).

On Tuesday, an indictment was filed with the Military District Court against the two soldiers, attributing to them a series of weapons offenses, primarily the removal of weapons from military custody and weapons trafficking. The police did not say when exactly the two were first arrested.

The arrests came after an investigation by the police that was launched following several incidents of weapons thefts from IDF bases.

At the conclusion of the investigation, which was both overt and covert, the identities of the suspects in the acts were uncovered, and two regular service soldiers, residents of the northern region, were arrested on suspicion of stealing combat equipment.

The investigation revealed that over a period of several months, the main defendant in the case, who serves in a technical role in a combat battalion, exploited his access to tents where combat soldiers in the battalion slept, and stole three assault rifles.

In an additional incident, the defendant took a machine gun that was mounted on a military vehicle in assembly areas as part of readiness for operational activity.

According to the allegations in the indictment, three of the thefts were carried out together with another soldier, the defendant’s friend, who does not serve with him in the battalion. It is further described that the defendants sold together three of the stolen weapons, for more than 100,000 Shekels per opportunity.
