Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar today (Wednesday, 26 March 2025) hosted Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Maria Malmer Stenergard at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.
The two first met privately and then held an extended meeting with their teams. During their meeting, they discussed regional developments and bilateral relations. FM Sa’ar reviewed the situation in the region and referred to the war on the various fronts.
FM Sa’ar clarified the importance of the Israeli victory in the campaign and noted a statement of the late Golda Meir, who said that if the Arabs lay down their weapons, there would be no more war. But if Israel lays down its weapons – there would be no more State of Israel.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, FM Sa’ar said: “By insisting on continuing to hold the hostages and refusing to demilitarize the Gaza Strip, Hamas is pushing for a renewal of the war in Gaza.
Israel will no longer accept the continued threat to its security and its citizens from the Gaza Strip.
Alongside the IDF’s ongoing activities in Gaza, the scope of which is currently limited, we are permitting the dialogue to reach its limits to achieve an agreement on extending the ceasefire and facilitating the release of the hostages. However, we will not wait indefinitely.”
