Jerusalem, 24 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Following an investigation into a serious espionage case conducted by the Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet (Israel’s anti-terror General Security Service), indictments were filed against two residents of the Jerusalem area for serious security offenses that included contact with an Iranian intelligence agent.

The two Israeli citizens were arrested in January 2026, accused of committing serious security offenses related to contact with Iranian intelligence elements.

An investigation revealed that during the months prior to their arrest, the two were in contact with Iranian intelligence officials and carried out various security missions, while understanding that they were acting under Iranian direction and doing so in exchange for money.

According to the facts of the indictment, during 2025, one of the defendants contacted an Iranian entity via Telegram and agreed to perform various tasks for him in exchange for funds transferred to him in digital currencies. The defendant later added his brother to the activity, and the two worked together over time, aware of the nature of the entity with whom they were in contact.

The defendants carried out a series of actions intended to serve the foreign agent, including transmitting content and information that was intended to be of a security nature, impersonating others, including the image of a soldier in the IDF’s Unit 8200, and creating sophisticated false representations using advanced technological means, including artificial intelligence tools.
