Unprecedented Flooding Forces Closure of Popular Israeli Nature Reserve

Jerusalem, 7 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Heavy flooding struck Israel’s popular Ein Gedi Nature Reserve, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority said on Wednesday.
The Authority said that a sudden downpour on Sunday brought 35 mm of rain in a short time, resulting in the destruction of hiking trails, erosion of paths, and the flooding of a 6th Century synagogue. Infrastructure, including roads, signage, and utilities, also suffered significant damage.
Restoration efforts are underway to assess and repair the damage, but the reserve, located near the Dead Sea, will remain closed to visitors until the work is completed.
