Jerusalem, 2 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Two incidents of heavy black smoke emissions were observed at the Ashdod oil refinery on Wednesday. An initial inspection conducted at the refinery indicates that both incidents occurred due to a malfunction in one of the plant’s facilities, reported the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The refinery is currently restarting its production facilities after a planned shutdown for maintenance. The restarting of the facilities is expected to continue over the next four days, during which the ministry and the union will closely monitor the refinery’s environmental performance.

The is monitoring the data from the monitoring stations and emphasize that at this stage there are no deviations from air quality standards. The ministry also demanded that the refinery submit an investigation into the events that occurred during the day without delay.
