Jerusalem, 10 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — In 2024, there were approximately 711,000 active businesses in Israel and approximately 4.3 million salaried jobs for Israeli and foreign workers. This according to the data from the Central Bureau of Statistics’ “Business Demographics – Business Survival and Movement 2022-2024” report.
About 68% of all active businesses in Israel are independent, about 27% are companies (private, public and foreign), and about 5% of the remaining active businesses are of another type (partnerships, non-profits, government institutions, etc.).
About 62% of all salaried jobs in Israel are in companies (private, public and foreign), about 9% are with the self-employed, and about 29% of the remaining salaried jobs are of another type (partnerships, non-profits, government institutions, etc.).
In 2024, approximately 48,600 new businesses were started, which is only 6.8% of all active businesses that year. The percentage of business establishing in 2024 was lower than that measured in 2023 (7.1%) and then that measured in 2022 (8.4%).
For the 15,887 businesses established as employers in 2024, 67,800 employee jobs were added, which is 1.7% of the total employee jobs in all active businesses that year. For comparison, in 2023, approximately 54,900 employee jobs were added for businesses that were born as employers, which was approximately 1.4% of the total employee jobs in all active businesses that year.
92.5% of businesses established in 2024 as employers had up to 9 employee positions.
89% of businesses established in 2023 also survived their second year of operation (2024).
23.1% of businesses established in 2035 survived their twentieth year of operation (2024).
The lowest survival rate throughout the nineteen years of operation is found in the hospitality and food services industries (9.4%), while the highest survival rate is found in the health, welfare and relief services industry (37.3%).
