Matricelf Secures Approval for First Engineered Nerve Implant in Paraplegic Patients
Jerusalem, 12 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Tel Aviv-based biotech company Matricelf is preparing to launch the world’s first engineered nerve implant for paraplegic patients, following an agreement with Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov). The implant, developed from revolutionary tissue engineering technology by Prof. Tal Dvir of Tel Aviv University, aims to restore mobility for those with spinal cord injuries.
Matricelf recently received preliminary approval from Israel’s Ministry of Health to begin compassionate use trials. Clinical manufacturing will take place at Ichilov’s GMP-certified Institute for Advanced Cellular Therapy, ensuring regulatory compliance and patient safety. Blood and fat samples from the first patient are expected within ten months, with implantation planned shortly thereafter.
