Jerusalem, 28 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The government has approved the proposal by Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen and Regional Cooperation Minister David Amsalem to authorize Mekorot Yazoom to build, develop and maintain wastewater treatment facilities. This comes against the backdrop of plans to build tens of thousands of housing units, for which wastewater treatment facilities (WTPs) constitute a significant obstacle to the development of these plans.
The Ministry said this removes a “major obstacle to the development of the housing sector.”
“In order to promote housing plans, it is necessary to increase the capacity of the purification facilities, and the government decision that was made will allow the development of the wastewater treatment plants to be accelerated and thus expedite the housing plans,” it explained.
The scope of Mekorot Yazum’s activity within the total market was limited to 30%, in order to encourage competition in the market and allow private companies to enter.
