Jerusalem, 29 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Knesset approved in a preliminary vote a government-backed bill that would effectively strip the attorney general of most powers. The measure, supported by far-right and Haredi-Orthodox coalition parties, passed 59-44.

The bill, which proposes dividing the attorney general’s role into three separate positions, now moves to the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee.
