Jerusalem, 10 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — A Jewish man in his 20s was arrested for setting fire to a Jerusalem synagogue where former Chief Sephardi Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef prays, the Israel Security Agency and police said on Monday as a gag order on the case was partially lifted.
The fire erupted at the “Or Chaviv” synagogue in the city’s Sanhedria neighborhood on Sunday. Firefighters contained the blaze and saved sacred texts with minimal property damage. No injuries were reported.
The arson investigation intensified when police discovered Christian crosses spray-painted on the synagogue premises and a nearby residential building door shortly before the fire.
