Jerusalem Prepares for Elite Rapid Chess Tournament

Jerusalem, 20 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel will host a major international chess event this winter, organizers announced Tuesday. The Jerusalem Masters, a rapid chess world championship, is set for November 30–December 3 and will feature 12 of the world’s top players, including grandmasters, a reigning world champion, and members of Israel’s national team.

The tournament, jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Jerusalem Municipality, and the Israel Chess Federation, offers a $140,000 prize pool, one of the largest in Israeli chess history.

Ahead of the Masters, the Jerusalem Open will take place November 26–27, welcoming around 400 players from Israel and abroad. The top two finishers will qualify for the Masters.
