Jerusalem, 4 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli Border Police foiled an attempt to smuggle over 1,000 kilograms of unsupervised meat from the Palestinian Authority into Jerusalem, authorities said on Thursday.

Security personnel at the Hizma checkpoint discovered the meat on Wednesday after stopping a truck that emitted an unusual odor. The meat was found inside a hidden double wall. ministry of Agriculture investigators said the meat was transported in unsafe conditions and had not undergone veterinary inspection.

The suspect, a Jerusalem resident in his 40s, was taken for questioning. Authorities said the meat will be destroyed and the truck confiscated.
