Jerusalem, 25 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — According to Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, the country saw a large jump in building permits, with Tel Aviv leading the way.
In the 12 months April 2024-March 2025, building permits were issued for approximately 80,650 apartments, an increase of approximately 10.9% compared to the previous 12 months (April 2023-March 2024).
Of the total number of apartments for which permits were issued in the 12 months April 2024-March 2025, approximately 22.5% were in the Tel Aviv District, approximately 21.4% in the Central District, and approximately 18.1% in the Southern District.
In the 12 months April 2024-March 2025, construction of approximately 67,840 apartments began, an increase of 6.0% compared to the previous 12 months (April 2023-March 2024).
Approximately 92.5% of the apartments that began construction are additional apartments to the economy. That is, net construction starts are approximately 62,740 apartments (approximately 5,100 existing apartments were demolished)
About a fifth of all construction starts were in each of the Central (22%), Southern (20.1%) and Tel Aviv (18.8%) districts.
Approximately 70.9% of the apartments whose construction began were built for sale, of which approximately 15.8% were government subsidized (approximately 7,580 apartments). The largest number of apartments under government subsidy was in the Southern District, approximately 2,490 apartments, which is approximately 32.8% of all apartments being built under this framework. It was followed by the Central District with 2,170 apartments, which is 28.7% of all apartments being built under government subsidy.
