Israel Reports Rise in Early Breast Cancer Detection Ahead of Awareness Month

Jerusalem, 30 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Health Ministry of Health today released updated 2022 data on breast cancer in Israeli women, ahead of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Last year, 4,812 new breast cancer cases were diagnosed, mostly in women over 50, with 72% detected at an early stage — up from 58% in 2005. Among women aged 20–39, incidence rose by 0.9% per year between 1996 and 2022, while rates in women over 75 declined. Five-year survival has improved, reaching 90.8% for Jewish/other women.

Prof. Lital Kinan, Director of the National Center for Disease Control, stressed that “early detection through mammography reduces mortality and can significantly improve survival.”
