Ni Gil Tanenbaum Breaking News

Jerusalem, 1 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Israeli Society for Ecology and Environmental Sciences presented recommendations to improve wastewater quality and ensure safe and sustainable agricultural irrigation.

Israel is a world leader in water recycling and wastewater recovery – more than 80% of treated wastewater is intended for agricultural use. However, exposure to pollutants originating from wastewater and their impact on soil, water sources, biodiversity and public health raise the need for a deeper understanding of the environmental and health challenges associated with the use of wastewater for irrigation.

The committee’s report includes an in-depth analysis of the potential impacts of using wastewater for agricultural irrigation and includes recommendations for new processes and regulatory policies. The presentation of these findings is being done due to the need to increase public and regulatory awareness of managing the risks of pollution caused by wastewater use.
