Deputy Foreign Minister and Knesset Member Sharren Haskel has departed for a diplomatic visit to Rome, during which she will meet with senior members of the Italian parliament and government, as well as leaders of the Jewish community and representatives of civil society.
During the visit, Haskel will meet with Italy’s Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli, Minister of Universities and Research Anna Maria Bernini, and Minister for Parliamentary Relations Luca Ciriani. She will also hold a series of meetings with senators and members of parliament from both the coalition and opposition, members of the Italy-Israel Friendship Group, and key figures involved in the fight against antisemitism and in promoting Israel’s public diplomacy efforts.
In addition, Haskel will meet with leaders of the Jewish community in Italy and speak with the Italian media.
The visit is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to shape European public opinion, strengthen international legitimacy for Israel’s right to defend its citizens, and counter antisemitic campaigns, misinformation, and defamation on the international stage.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel:
“I am arriving in Italy as part of a broad diplomatic campaign to make the case for Israel’s right to defend itself, in light of the disturbing shift we are seeing in some parts of Europe. It is unacceptable that Israel stands alone in the fight against murderous terrorism, while some political elements attempt to deny our basic right to protect our citizens.
This is the time to speak directly with parliamentarians, ministers, and opinion leaders — to make clear that Israel has every right to fight for its security, and will continue to do so. At a time when Israel is fighting for its very right to exist, it is crucial to build international coalitions that will confront incitement and strengthen Israel’s global standing.
I thank our friends in Italy for their partnership, friendship, and support.”
