Abnormal Water Test Results in Several Northern Streams

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection are informing travelers and local and regional councils of abnormal water test results in several northern streams. Bacterial tests conducted on samples taken on December 8, 2025, showed that some streams exceeded the Ministry of Health‘s recommended limit (400 fecal coliforms per 100 mL), indicating water contamination.

Test results:

  1. Hasbani – Hydroelectric Station (Northern Garden): 450; Stream Confluence Promenade: 800.
  2. Jordan – Yosef Bridge: 900; Lehavot HaBashan Bridge: 1,110; HaChamisha Bridge: 800; HaPekak (Hori) Bridge: 1,100; Jordan near Atarot: 1,200; Arik Bridge: 1,100.
  3. Yehudiya – Yehudiya Waterfall: 950.
  4. Gilaboon – Deborah Waterfall: 600.
  5. Meshushim Pool: 1,000.
  6. Tzalmon – Flour Mill: 3,500.
  7. Kziv*: Ein Tamir Pool: 800; Dalavim Pool: 4,500; Ein Hardalit: 5,000; Ein Ziv: 6,000.

Given these results, entering these streams may be hazardous until water tests show safe and stable results:

  1. Hasbani – Hydroelectric Station and Jordan River confluence.
  2. Jordan – From Yosef Bridge to the Kinneret.
  3. Yehudiya.
  4. Gilaboon.
  5. Meshushim Pool.
  6. Tzalmon – Flour Mill.
  7. Kziv* – Ein Tamir Pool, Dalavim Pool, Ein Hardalit, and Ein Ziv.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has not identified a known source of contamination in these streams. However, the elevated levels in the Kziv stream may be due to runoff from rainfall.

Under normal circumstances, water sampling is conducted biweekly by inspectors from the Nature and Parks Authority at fixed sampling points in northern streams (upper galilee, Golan, and Western Galilee). Sampling points represent a waterfall, pool, or section of the stream. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection continue monitoring and will provide updates as needed.
