Jerusalem, 5 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — In light of the updated guidelines published by the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Home Front Command that allow for a return to activity in workplaces that have a standard protected space, the following are the guidelines from the Environmental Radiation Commissioner for those dealing with radioactive materials:

Working with radioactive materials – Activities with radioactive materials may only be carried out inside buildings in facilities approved under the permit conditions, and provided that the workplace has a standard and accessible protected space according to Home Front Command guidelines.

Transport of radioactive materials – Transport of radioactive materials between institutions, to and from Ben Gurion Airport, will be permitted only for short-lived radioactive materials, with a half-life of up to 8 days.

In the event that transport of radioactive material with a half-life exceeding 8 days is required, the transport will be subject to obtaining specific prior approval from the Environmental Radiation Supervisor.

Such transport may not be carried out without receiving this approval.

Field activities with radioactive sources – At this stage, field work involving the use of radioactive sources should not be carried out, including: industrial radiography, soil density and moisture measurements.
