Israel's government removes regulatory barriers on ground meat, slashing prices by up to 15% & saving consumers NIS 1.5 billion annually.
Jerusalem, 18 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli government announced the removal of regulatory barriers on ground meat, a reform expected to save consumers up to NIS 1.5 billion ($490 million) annually. The initiative allows controlled industrial grinding and the sale of pre-packaged ground meat, aligning local rules with European and U.S. standards. Officials say the reform will lower prices across meat products by up to 15%, increase market competition, reduce unnecessary waste, and maintain strict food safety standards.
